The Best Things to do in Valparaiso Chile
Valparaiso is great in the sense that it’s big enough to have everything you desire, but still small enough to be able to walk everywhere. Walking the streets is always the best way to see everything and become fully emerged in the culture.
Here you can admire the world renowned and beautiful Valparaiso graffiti as you stroll around. So keep your eye out for all the Valparaiso street art, as well as these other fun experiences we showcase in the blog!
Valparaiso Graffiti
Valparaiso is filled with countless murals and paintings that form one giant masterpiece. The colors brighten up the steps and walls of the city making it unique to anywhere else in the world. The murals and Valparaiso street art are of the upmost importance as they touch on the many political and social issues of Chile.
Bar Hop on the Hill
We were very impressed with Valparaiso’s thriving bar scene up on the hilltops. There’s plenty of world class restaurants in Valparaiso Chile, and also an abundance of awesome places to grab a drink!
I mean what’s better than an ice old beer overlooking one of the best cities in Chile? We preferred the daytime happy hour in town. However, if you’re really looking to party it doesn’t start until around midnight on weekends.
Riding the Oldest Elevators
The elevators or “Ancensores” connect the lower parts of Valparaiso with the gorgeous upper level of the city. This ride will take you on a piece of early 20th century history, and you’ll be saving yourself a walk up one of the many steep hills! An essential thing to know is that Valparaiso’s port is entirely commercialized.
That means if you’re looking for restaurants on the water you’ll be out of luck! All the action is on the upper level of the city. Just remember the higher you go the better time you’ll have, and the more awesome Valparaiso graffiti you’ll get to see!
Valparaiso Graffiti Tours 4 Tips
These free walking tours run everyday and stop at all major attractions in the city. The “tips only” method of payment makes it a pretty cheap option for travelers. Also, the guides are virtually impossible to lose as they are dressed like the character in “Where’s Waldo?” Your tour will take you through all the back streets and point out all the amazing Valparaiso graffiti along the way.

Delicious Express
You should know there are many fantastic restaurants in Valparaiso Chile. However, the best food we found was at this famous empanadas joint on Urriola street. With over 60 different kinds of empanadas, we had no choice but to come to Delicious Express everyday! It’s covered in some less than appealing Valparaiso Graffiti, but the $2 USD empanadas more than make up for that.
