Planning a trip to Montenegro? This is where you can find the best Montenegro travel tips, vacation guides, and read all about our own experiences.
We’ve spent a lot of time traveling in the Balkans, and Montenegro was one of our favorite countries! We took the bus from Dubrovnik Croatia to the border town of Herceg Novi for our first visit.
From there, we continued onto the city of Budva on the Adriatic Sea. Here we explored the historic Old Town and took a fabulous walk on the Seven Bay Trail. The path took us to 7 different magical beaches and ended at the famous Sveti Stefan Island.
During our time in Montenegro, we also got the chance to visit Kotor. This incredible city feels like a trip back in time. It sits between the peaks of the Dinaric Alps, and you can even hike up to the Castle of San Giovanni for a better view!
Check out all our Montenegro guides for helpful tips and stories from our own trips. It won’t be long until we’re back in this part of Europe, so stay tuned!
Money: The Euro is used throughout the country.
Location: Montenegro is located in Southern Europe. It shares a border with Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Language: Montenegrin is the official language.
Seasons: The most popular time to visit is during the warm summer months. This is when you can take advantage of the stunning beaches on the Adriatic Sea.
However, one of our best Montenegro travel tips is to see the country during shoulder season. Before or after July and August you’ll find less crowds, but still pleasant weather for your Montenegro vacation.
What to Eat & Drink: Montenegro has a wide variety of cuisine to enjoy. Be sure to try cevapi and other delicious local dishes!
