Kefalonia

Planning a trip to the island of Kefalonia Greece? Here’s where you can find helpful Kefalonia travel tips, the best things to do, and all about our own adventures.

We have spent years traveling around Greece, but Kefalonia was our first experience in the Ionian Islands. Needless to say, it completely blew us away!

After a quick one hour flight from Athens, we jumped in our rental car and were off to explore. Our week-long visit would take us up into the mountains, through small villages, and to so many beautiful beach towns.

We spent three days in the colorful port of Sami, and used that as a base to see this area of the island. From here we would visit unique caves, take a fun boat tour, and hit the world-famous Myrtos Beach!

One of our favorite memories was the trip we took to Assos village. We highly recommend spending a morning here, and making the hike up to the ancient castle.

Kefalonia Greece Travel Tips

Money: The Euro is used throughout Greece.

Location: Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands located in Western Greece.

Language: Greek is the official language of the country.

Seasons: The most popular time to go is in the warm summer months. This is when you’ll find the best weather for the beaches and exciting outdoor activities.

Nevertheless, our advice is to plan your Kefalonia trip during shoulder season. By visiting outside the peak months of July and August, you’ll find less crowds and still very pleasant temperatures.
