Planning a trip to Albania? This unique country is one of our absolute favorites in the Balkans! This page is where you can find all our Albania guides and travel tips.
We started our two week Albania adventure by taking the ferry from Greece to the coastal town of Saranda. From there, we explored the beaches, colorful mountain towns, and much more.
Albania is a diverse country rich in history, nature, and culinary delights. Although it has gained more popularity with travelers in recent years, it still remains one of the more untouched destinations in Europe.
It’s a place that truly surprised us in so many ways! When starting to plan out your Albania trip, there are definitely a few things you should know first. Many people will fly into the capital city of Tirana and rent a car, or use the local minibus system to go from there.
Albania is also a country that is great for those on a budget. As you’ll see in the articles below, this is a very affordable spot to vacation.
Check out all our Albania travel guides for tips, and to hear all about our experience. Also, be sure to taste as much food as possible along your journey!
Money: Albanian Lek is the official currency of Albania.
Location: Albania is located in Southeastern Europe in the Balkan Peninsula. Its bordering countries include Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro. You’ll also find many beautiful beaches like Ksamil during your Albania travel as it sits on both the Ionian and Adriatic seas.
Language: Albanian is spoken throughout the country. Two different dialects can be heard with Tosk in the south, and Gheg in the north.
Seasons: High season is during the summer months like much of Europe. In the spring and fall you’ll find a moderate climate and less crowds. During the wintertime, it often snows up in the Albanian Alps!
What to Eat & Drink: The food is absolutely delicious! We found it to be similar to Mediterranean cuisine like Italian and Greek cuisine, with their own special twists and flavors added in.
