About the Burlington Vermont Bike Path
The paved pathway runs 8 miles from just south of Oakledge Park all the way to the Winooski River. The best part of the Burlington Vermont bike path is that it’s pretty much completely flat. That means most of the time you’ll be cruising smoothly along the water. The epic New England nature makes the Lake Champlain bike trail a must-do in spring, summer, and fall.
*Even if you’re not up for riding, the Burlington Vermont bike path is a great place to take a walk!
Where to Start the Lake Champlain Bike Trail
While you can pick the Burlington bike path up at almost any point, the official start is Oakledge Park. There is plenty of parking here, and you can go to the end of the Burlington Greenway and back in less than 2 hours at a casual pace. However, many Lake Champlain bike path riders prefer to start from downtown Burlington… Especially if you need to rent a bicycle!
Renting a Bicycle for the Burlington Pike Path
There are multiple places to rent a bike in downtown Burlington. For the shop closest to the Burlington Vermont bike path, we recommend Local Motion Trailside Center. At the time of writing this, adult rentals cost $18 per hour or $38 for a full day.
For the best experience, you should take the bike out for the entire day or afternoon. This way you can take your time on the Lake Champlain bike trail, make plenty of stops, and enjoy your day to the fullest.
Beaches Along the Burlington Vermont Bike Path
The best part about the Burlington bike path is how much there is to see along the way! You could literally spend all day beach hopping through Burlington or stopping at the many viewpoints.
Our favorite thing to do is bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it at Texaco Beach, which is about halfway in between downtown and the Winooski River. Below we’ve listed our favorite beaches along the Lake Champlain bike path from south to north.
- Blanchard Beach
- Texaco Beach
- North Beach
- Leddy Beach
- Starr Farm Beach
Continuing on the Island Line Trail
Up for more riding after the Burlington Vermont bike path? Well, you should know the Burlington Greenway is part of the longer Island Line trail which is 13.4 miles in total. Once you cross the bridge over the Winooski River you can continue onto Colchester, through Mallets Bay, and to Causeway Park.
The Causeway is really amazing as it’s a small piece of land that stretches all the way out into the center of Lake Champlain. When you get to the end you can even take the Local Motion Bike Ferry across to Grand Isle!
