Kennebunkport ME has always been a hit with stars in the summertime. It’s not uncommon to see celebrities like Martha Stewart and Taylor Swift vacationing.
Still, you’ll see it has a very laid back feel that’s become a home away from home for many families. In fact, we know several people personally that make a yearly summer trip here!
So is Kennebunkport worth visiting for a day trip, or should you stay longer? That all depends on how much time you have and your own personal travel style. You’ll want to consider the best time of year to visit Kennebunkport Maine as well.
Day Trip vs Longer Stay
The first thing to take into account is how much time you have. Know that if you’re taking a day trip to Kennebunkport you’ll only be able to get a small feel for the town.
A few hours is enough time to explore the downtown area, grab lunch, and even go for a quick walk along the beach. Yet, if you’re the type to slow down and relax, then Kennebunkport can also be a great spot to base yourself from.

Late in the spring is an excellent time of year to be in Kennebunkport Maine! The flowers are in bloom, the weather is starting to warm up, and the crowds haven’t arrived.
Just make sure to shoot for later in the spring for the nicest possible weather. Some shops and restaurants may not be open yet if you go too early.
Summer Sunshine
This is arguably the best time to visit Kennebunkport. Keep in mind that popular Inn’s can sell out well in advance. Also, you’ll want to start your search very early to lock in a vacation home on websites like Airbnb.
With Maine’s great location in New England, the weather stays refreshingly cool even in the hottest months. Just remember that the summer can bring the largest crowds. Gooch’s Beach, Colony Beach, and Middle Beach are all just a short drive from town.
Fall in Kennebunkport Maine
There are pros and cons to visiting in the fall! If you come right after August, there will be a surreal time where the weather is pleasant and not too crowded.
This is a short, but wonderful window that can be the best time to visit Kennebunkport Maine. However, know that it will close quick! As you soon as the leaves start to change the town will be swarmed with tourists to see the fall foliage.
Winter Season
For most travelers, winter is not a great time to visit Kennebunkport. Many of the shops and restaurant’s shut down for the season, and the weather can be very unpredictable.
Nevertheless, the one exception is during Christmas in Kennebunkport ME! There are actually two weeks of celebrations leading up to the holiday with the Christmas Prelude festival.

Absolutely! If you couldn’t tell, we absolutely love Kennebunkport. The small town vibe, local Maine charm, and beautiful beaches is what keep us coming back.
