Moraira is one of our favorite small towns in Costa Blanca Spain. Since moving to the area, we find ourselves here at least once a week, if not more. Some of our favorite things to do in Moraira are grabbing breakfast, hitting the Friday market, and swimming at the beautiful beaches. Here’s our advice for one perfect day in Moraira!
What Makes Moraira Spain So Special
Moraira was once an old fishing village on the northern part of the Costa Blanca. In recent years, it has transformed into an upscale seaside town full of tapas bars, great restaurants, and some of the beast beaches around.
While it is popular to visit during the summer, there isn’t an overwhelming amount of tourists here otherwise. Moraira is a fun place to stay overnight if you have time. However, most travelers make a day trip here from the more popular surrounding towns.
That’s simply because Moraira is small and there aren’t many places to stay directly in town. One amazing accommodation in Moraira Spain is La Sort Boutique Hotel which has beautiful views of the water. Hotel Serawa Moraira is another nice spot just a quick drive from the town center.
Quick Reminder: Never go abroad without travel insurance. We’ve been using SafetyWing for the last few years and they’re always there when we need them.
Morning Breakfast at Bar Costa Blanca
Whenever we’re in Moraira Spain we make sure to stop into our favorite cafe for a quick breakfast. Bar Costa Blanca is our go-to cafe, and it’s only 5 euros for their breakfast deal on the weekdays! Algas Port is just across the street and worth checking out as well.
So what exactly is the deal that we keep coming back for? Well, this classic twist on tostada con tomate is sure to fill you up!
The large slice of toasted bread is topped with a tomato spread and the Spanish jamon serrano. It also comes with a coffee of your choice (we like cafe con leche) and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice.
After breakfast in Moraira Spain make sure to head to Pasteleria Passion bakery next door. We love to grab a chocolate croissant to share later on the beach.
Moraira Spain Village & Friday Market
After breakfast, it’s time to explore more of Moraira Spain. If you can plan your trip to be here on a Friday then you definitely should! In the large parking lot just behind town dozens of tents pop up for the Moraira market.
Here you’ll find items like clothing, bags, olives, roasted chicken, and fresh fruits and vegetables. We always take the opportunity to load up on produce for the week.
Be prepared for a long line at the roasted chicken stand! They also cook sausage and ribs if you missed out on breakfast.
Once you’ve seen the Moraira market, walk down to the beach to scenic port area. You can head to Platgetes here for some fun in the sun, or head to our favorite beach which we talk about next.
El Portet Beach in Moraira
This isn’t just one of the best beaches in town, but one of our favorites in all of Costa Blanca! We highly recommend taking the coastal walk here from the city centre.
The walk isn’t too difficult but has views over Moraira Spain, the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, and down the coast to Calpe.
Calpe is a larger beach town that we love, and it’s easy to make a day trip from here to Moraira. You can read about all the best things to do in Calpe here before your visit.
When you get your first view of El Portet you’ll be absolutely blown away! While it isn’t so big, there is just enough soft sand to enjoy for an afternoon. Many visitors do kayaking, snorkeling, and a variety of other water sports at El Portet.
Once you start to get hungry again, two fun restaurants in Moraira Spain are right above the beach. Grab one of the tables at Restaurante El Portet or Racó and take in the stunning sea views. Both are casual beach hang outs where you can get buy a bocadillo, seafood, or an ice cold beer.
If you don’t have time to hit El Portet, don’t worry! Platgetes Beach is much closer to the center of Moraira and is a good spot for an afternoon swim.
After the beach, make the walk back to the town center. We recommend popping into any of the little tapa bars to grab a glass of wine or coffee to end your day.
