Annecy Restaurants

Looking for the best restaurants in Annecy France? We got you covered! After one month exploring this beautiful lake town, we found so many amazing Annecy restaurants. From lakeside eateries with view to where to eat street food in old town, Annecy has something every food lover will enjoy.

Our Trip to Annecy France

Having a few weeks this past July gave us plenty of time to explore the food scene around Annecy. The main reason we chose the town was for the stunning alpine lake, mountains, and nature. You can read about all the best things to do in Annecy here!

Yet, being in France, the cuisine was a welcomed bonus. While we knew it would be good, we had no idea how many great Annecy restaurants there truly were.

You’ll see that we start with the bustling streets of old town, before moving on to some of the best restaurants in Annecy around the lake.

The timing for dinner is something to be aware of if it’s your first trip to France. Most of the Annecy restaurants close after lunch and don’t reopen until at least 7pm.

We loved seeing this area with bicycles, but keep in mind the lake is absolutely massive! For the best experience, we highly recommend getting a rental car to visit the beaches and small villages on the water. You can even take a day trip to Chamonix France from here like we did!

This will also allow you to stay at fantastic hotels like La villa Du PortRivage Hôtel & Spa Annecy for a relaxing holiday outside of the city centre. If you don’t have a vehicle, be sure to check out the Impérial Palace, Hotel Les Terrasses, and Le Boutik Hotel in Annecy old town.

Best Restaurants in Annecy Old Town

1. Les Caprices d’Émilie

Raclette is a very popular dish in the French Alps, and that’s no different around Lake Annecy! One thing you should know is that many of the best restaurants in Annecy are quite expensive.

When it comes to raclette, you can expect to pay anywhere from 20 to 35 Euros per person for this cheesy dish. Don’t get us wrong, it’s definitely worth trying!

Nevertheless, if you’re on a budget, there is another option in Annecy old town. We discovered Les Caprices d’Emilie while strolling around the backstreets and looking for a quick bite.

As we walked by, we couldn’t help but notice them scraping the hot raclette cheese off the wheel directly onto a baguette! The best part about these sandwiches is they only cost 5 euros, which makes for the perfect lunch to take to the lake.

2. PAUL Bakery

Just down the street is one of our favorite bakeries in Annecy France. We often went here before the weekly market that we’ll tell you more about later.

PAUL Bakery is a nice stop for a treat and coffee to start off your day. When we first went inside we were in awe of all the incredible French baked goods.

From eclairs and flaky croissants to cakes and pan au chocolate, they truly had it all here! The outdoor seating area can fill up fast on the weekends, but seats open up rather quickly.

3.Restaurant Chez Monique

If you’re looking for more of a sit down place, the old town of Annecy boasts an array of great restaurants. On one of our very first nights we were strolling around and decided to stop at Chez Monique.

The menu has a great selection of salad, pizzas, burgers, and traditional french cuisine. Brigitte is allergic to wild mushrooms, so she couldn’t try my plate.

However, I just couldn’t resist ordering the lamb with wild mushrooms! Definitely stop into this Annecy restaurant for a casual lunch or dinner.

4. La Porte Sainte Claire

Just past Chez Monique on the same street is another great spot for a meal! La Porte Sainte Claire is on the higher end, and features both seafood and exquisite meat dishes.

Everything looked delicious, but there were a couple of items we just had to have! We started off with the steak tartare, which was nothing like we’ve had before.

After that, everyone in our group decided to get a personal order of the mussels. This would be one of the first Annecy restaurants we go back to on our next trip.

5. Haven

There are numerous French cafes and bakeries to try in Annecy. If you’re looking for something a little different though, you have to check out Haven!

This is an Australian brunch spot located in the heart of old town that stays packed until the early afternoon. The menu is very unique, with a modern spin on some of the classics.

We ordered the fluffy pancakes that came with a healthy portion of mascarpone cream. Another dish we loved here was the Aussie eggs benedict.

6. Glacier des Alpes

Ready for some gelato?? There are many restaurants in Annecy that serve this popular dessert.

Still, for the very best, we recommend you stop at Glacier des Alpes. The only hard part we’ll be choosing which flavor you want!

On a hot summer day, there may be a line forming down the block. Just know that it’s worth the wait for that sweet gelato in Annecy.

7. Chalet La Pricaz

The first place we need to tell you about outside of Annecy old town is way up in the mountains. Don’t worry though, once you see the views from Chalet La Pricaz, you’ll 100% be adding it to your itinerary!

It’s located 15 minutes drive from Taillores, which is one of our favorite little towns to visit on the water. You may be able to see it from various points around the lake, as it’s a popular place for hang gliders to take off from. Little did we know, they’d be flying right over us as while we ate our meals!

We arrived at Chalet la Pricaz right when they opened after an interesting drive up the mountain. This looked like the perfect occasion to splurge on fondue with seats that looked out over the entire valley.

Well, you’ll be happy to know that the food totally matched the view! The scenery alone makes for a fun day trip even if you don’t stop for a meal. You’ll also want to check out this Annecy restaurant later in the day for the sunset.

8. Le Pêcheur

As we mentioned, renting a car is a great way to get around the lake. Our next restaurant is also located right next to one of the best beaches in Annecy!

We spent an entire morning at Plage de la Brune, and made the short stroll to Le Pêcheur when it was time for lunch. The setting right on the water makes for a beautiful setting outside.

Our order was an easy choice once we say that they had a whole fish on the menu! In fact, most of the people around us were all ordering it to their tables.

Just like the fondue, you’ll need to order this with at least 2 people to share. Be sure to try some fresh fish from Lake Annecy on your visit.

9. Restaurant La Terre de Bellevarde

Speaking of seafood, one of the best meals we had was at Restaurant La Terre de Bellevarde. This is located in a stunning part of Lake Annecy, a few minutes drive in the mountains from Château de Duingt.

The vibe here is very farm to table, and the view really steals the show. We started off with a shared meat and cheese plate to start with natural sparkling sodas. For our mains, we had fresh trout from the lake stuffed with herbs and an amazing duck skewer.

Another fun aspect of La Terre de Bellevarde is the wine cave and dessert bar. You can help yourself to both inside the barn area and pay for it at the end of your meal.

10. Les Terrasses du Lac

There are a few Michelin stars sprinkled in with the best restaurants in Annecy France. Yet, some you have to really work for!

We first found out about Les Terrasses du Lac along our hiking route from town. That day we stopped in for a beer with a view, and knew we had to return!

You can also drive to this epic Annecy restaurant if you’re not up for the hike. Give one of their lavish tasting menus a try if you’re visiting for lunch or dinner.

11. L’Oasis – Sevrier

This is another great spot for a drink on the water. L’Oasis has been open since 1948 and has one of the wildest atmospheres we saw in the area.

It’s complete with a pizza bar, lawn games, and even a tattoo parlor if you’re in the mood! We visited in the later afternoon, but we could tell this place really gets bumping at night.

12. Annecy Local Market

Although not technically a restaurant, we’d be silly not to mention the weekly market as a place to eat! The Annecy market takes over old town every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday until 1:30pm.

Not only will you find unreal meats, cheeses, and fresh produce, but there are all kinds of awesome street food stands scattered around.

Some of our favorites were the potato pancakes, diot sausages, and bakery goods. We went at least once we week during our stay and always found something new to taste.

13. International Restaurants in Annecy

When you’re visiting somewhere for a long period as we were, you’re going to want to mix it up. That’s why we were so happy when we found out Annecy has an exciting international food scene.

On Brigitte’s birthday we stopped into Little Vietnam for lunch. The pho and bún thịt nướng really hit the spot!

We’ve visited this Southeast Asian country many times and tasted some of the best food in VietnamSo you know a place has to be good if we’re giving it our stamp of approval!

Other cuisines we noticed around town were Indian, Chinese, and Turkish. Obviously, there are plenty of Italian restaurants in Annecy as well!

14. Bakeries Galore

If you couldn’t tell by now, hitting the bakery was part of our daily routine in Annecy. With that said, we were partial to a couple of bakeries right around where we were staying.

Our Airbnb was located in a more residential neighborhood about 20 minutes walk from the water. Stop at “The Bread Counter” if you’re in the Novel – Teppes area for a true local gem!

We could tell this place was good from the moment we walked in. The fact that they had 5-6 people working inside such a tiny shop shows just how busy they get.

Another spot we enjoyed was “The Source” down the street. This is a great bakery that doubles as an organic grocery store.

15. Patrick Agnellet

Last but not least, don’t forget to have plenty of chocolate on your visit! After the gelato and bakeries, keep your eye out for the “Chocolatiers” around town.

These artisan chocolate shops are filled with high-end cakes and desserts. Our favorite when we needed something special was Patrick Agnellet tucked just behind Albigny Beach.
