Lake Thun is one of the most beautiful places we visited during our two weeks in Switzerland. The water is crystal clear, with the Swiss alps serving as the dreamy back drop. It’s also home to an incredible hotel, where we had the pleasure of staying at for two nights! Deltapark Vitalresort is a lakefront oasis that has all the spa amenities every traveler will love. Here’s all about our visit to Deltapark and why it makes for the perfect spa vacation for your next trip to Switzerland.
Why Should You Stay at a Spa Hotel in Switzerland?
Switzerland is a world famous travel destination for more reasons than one. You can’t deny the amazing scenery, delicious cuisine, and high tech innovations in transportation. However, the #1 thing they might be known for is their Swiss hospitality!
After an adventure packed itinerary full of hiking and outdoor adventures, we were excited to go into full relaxation mode. We checked into our hotel ready slow down and fully embrace the spa.
Deltapark Vitalresort is a gorgeous luxury hotel located right on Lake Thun. The highlight of the property is their wellness spa, which has 4 floors of incredible facilities.
As you’ll see in this article, the rooms, private beach, and fine dining, only further compliment the spa area!
Deltapark Vitalresort Room Tour
We stayed in room 211 which overlooks Lake Thun with a view of the property. As soon as we walked into the room, we immediately felt relaxed and at home.
The entire space is laid out in a way that is both calming and luxurious. Plus, the large floor-to-ceiling windows beautifully showcase the stunning lakeside location.
When we first opened the door, we noticed the spacious washroom on the right side. One thing that we loved about the shower is that the top half of the wall is clear glass.
This means that you can shower and lookout over the lake at the same time! It’s these little touches that separate Deltapark from other European resorts we’ve stayed it.
The beds are a special Swiss design that make for an extremely soft and comfortable sleep. If you don’t like your pillow for some reason, that’s not a problem either! You can actually order a different one from the pillow menu offered at Deltapark Vitalresort.
There were even a set of bamboo slippers left for us on the bed to wear around the hotel and take home afterwards. We definitely utilized the robes during our stay and wore them anytime we went over to the spa. Also, the plush eye masks were an extra bonus.

Relaxing at the Deltapark Spa
Without a doubt, one of the main draws to staying at Deltapark is the wellness spa. The DeltaSpa is set in a pyramid shaped building right next to Lake Thun.
When we first heard how massive the complex was, we truly couldn’t contain our excitement. There are not 1… not 2, not 3, but 4 floors of amenities to enjoy! Here’s a break down of each level of the Deltapark spa to know about before your visit.
First Floor
This is the main swimming area at Deltapark Vitalresort. There is a big salt pool, with an outdoor freshwater section to swim out to as well. We would discover that the DeltaSpa uses natural brine from the Schweizerhalle region to promote healing.
You can sit inside next to the water or lay out in the sun beds in the small outdoor garden. We also loved this area because there is a gate that connects to a back walkway.
To the right, you’ll find a small, pebbly beach where you can jump into Lake Thun! Visiting in late August, the lake was likely at its warmest point of the year.
We have to say it was much warmer than Lake Brienz, where we had spent the previous week in Switzerland.
Don’t get us wrong. Lake Thun was still chilly, but oh so refreshing on a hot summer day.
It was nice to go from the warm spa pool waters and switch it up to the lake when needed. Be sure to hit the jacuzzi zone in the center of the saltwater pool!
Second Floor
This is one of the most popular sections of the Deltapark Spa. As you stroll up the grand staircase, you’re able to go straight outside to large sundeck filled with chairs and umbrellas.
From here, there is a stunning view over the lake, with Deltapark’s main hotel building on the other side. This is one of places where you can catch a glimpse the epic mountains behind the resort.
If you’ve never been to a European spa, it’s very common for them to be clothing optional. However, the DeltaSpa has both clothed and unclothed floors, so you can do whatever you’re comfortable with.
Note that on the second level, you’ll need to keep your bathing suits on, while the two levels above are nude. Anyway, let’s move onto the actual amenities of the Deltapark Spa!
We absolutely adored the 4 seasons scented rain shower. This was like taking a small journey into each season with different scents. We went from a spring mist to a warm summer rain storm, through fall, and all the way to winter!
The second floor is complete with a steam room and two saunas. The organic herbal sauna not only benefits your respiratory system, but helps tremendously with blood circulation. You’ll also enjoy the relaxation rooms with fresh lemon water and warm teas.
Third Floor
The third level of the DeltaSpa is a textile free area, which means swimsuits are not necessary. This section of the facility is similar to level two in what is offered. Yet, instead of the 4 seasons rain shower, you can take advantage of the foot spa.
Pick between hot or cold temperatures and watch as the small foot bath fills up with water. It then turns into a small jet bath and massage for your toes!
This floor of the Deltapark Spa also features one of the most colorful saunas, with a large pink salt stone backdrop. This alpine salt sauna is meant to purify the air and strengthen your immune system.
Fourth Floor
The final level of the DeltaSpa holds yet another special relaxation room. Set on the top of the triangle shaped building, there is a pointed roof with a room that takes on the same shape.
The small lounge chairs make for a great spot to relax with a good book in between saunas. With all the different sections of the spa, you can easily spend all day in this part of Deltapark Vitalresort!
Getting Out on Lake Thun
One of the things we loved most about Deltapark was its position directly on Lake Thun. This is actually the ninth largest lake in all of Switzerland, and we were completely taken aback by its beauty.
As we mentioned, our room had a wonderful view of the lake. After relaxing at the spa, we would often walk out and take a quick dip. Yet, on our second afternoon, we decided we wanted to get out on the water!
There is a small stand on the lakefront where you can rent stand up paddleboards and kayaks through the hotel. Since we had been kayaking on Lake Brienz a few days before, we chose to go with the SUP boards for our water sports adventure.
This was such an incredible experience that we can’t recommend enough! Once we paddled out to the center of the lake, we looked back at the Deltapark Vitalresort with the Swiss Alps behind it in awe.
It is an unbelievable location that would be hard to find anywhere else in the world. We spent an hour taking in the scenery and jumping in and out of the water off our boards.
Getting out on Lake Thun made us truly appreciate our stay even more! Be sure to check out our best Switzerland travel tips if this is your first visit.
Deltapark Vitalresort Breakfast
Before we go into our amazing dinner, we should mention that Deltapark has a delicious buffet breakfast. Each morning, we headed down to start our day with fresh juices, muesli bowls, eggs, toast, lox, and herring.
The waiters will also come around and take your coffee order for you as you begin to eat. This was such a great way to begin the morning before heading to the DeltaSpa.
While the breakfast was certainly a treat, we had no idea what we were in for on our last night! That evening we booked a reservation at the Delta restaurant for dinner.
Dining at the Delta Restaurant
Once we saw how packed the main restaurant was, we were so happy we made a reservation. Clearly, word has gotten around about the Delta restaurant!
We were seated outside with a glorious view of the Lake Thun as the sun started to set. Our dinner started off with a local beer and glass of wine as we looked over the menu.
The four course meal that night included a starter, intermediate course, main course, and dessert. The smoked salmon mousse and carrot ginger soup were so flavourful, but the main course was the real showstopper.
Our lamb noisette came with a pistachio hummus, aubergines, and dried tomatoes. For dessert, they brought out a giant mixed berry cake. Needless to say, we didn’t go to bed hungry!
You should also know that Deltapark Vitalresort has two other places to eat. The DeltaLounge & Bar is connected to the lobby and has a more casual menu. This is great if you just need a quick bite for lunch or an afternoon cocktail before dinner.
The second restaurant is Deltaverde Thai Cuisine, which we found very unique for a Swiss resort. Here you can enjoy some mouthwatering dishes from Thailand at an upscale eatery on the lake.

Would We Stay at Deltapark Vitalresort Again?
Absolutely! If you couldn’t tell, we absolutely loved our stay at Deltapark.
Over the course of our time in Switzerland, we stayed at many nice hotels and resorts. Nevertheless, our time spent at Deltapark was something we’ll never forget.
From the four floors of spa facilities to the location on Lake Thun and delicious food, we had such a blast. This is the ultimate spa retreat for your vacation in Switzerland!
