Here’s our experience staying at Layana Resort and Spa so you can decide if the Koh Lanta hotel is right for you!
Getting to Koh Lanta Thailand
Our trip to the Layana Resort and Spa started from the Krabi International Airport. Layana offers a free shuttle to Koh Lanta from the airport which makes it extremely convenient to get to. The last time we visited Koh Lanta we were actually arriving from Koh Phi Phi on the fast ferry which is another popular travel route.
At Krabi Airport we met our driver and were shown into a luxury van. The seats were large, comfortable, and reclined so we could fully relax on the almost two hour journey. We connected to the van wifi and used the cold lemongrass scented towels to refresh after traveling.
If you didn’t know, Koh Lanta is actually an island! A car ferry connects it to the mainland and was a fun addition to our ride. When we boarded the ferry we got out and climbed up to the top viewing platform. From above, you’ll be able to see mangroves and large green mountains of Koh Lanta in the distance.

About Layana Resort and Spa
Layana is a stunning five star resort set on the popular Long Beach of Koh Lanta. It has won countless awards and is considered one of the top luxury hotels in all of Thailand.
There are just over 50 rooms, two gorgeous pools, the Layana Resort spa, a gym, and onsite restaurant. The hotel caters to couples like us which was perfect for our stay! We arrived looking for the ultimate two days of relaxation and a romantic getaway we would remember.
Fresh off the 2 hour transfer from Krabi Airport, we were welcomed with colorful flower leis, cold refreshments, and an amazing view overlooking the pools and beach from the lobby.
Layana Resort Room Tour
After checking into the hotel we were brought to our ground floor garden room. There are also oceanfront villas available which are beautiful modern bungalows set steps from the sand.
If you booked a garden view room (and don’t mind walking up a flight of stairs) then we recommend requesting to stay on the second floor. The lush palm trees right outside your balcony will make you feel like you’re truly in the jungle!
The bathroom had a large vanity and a sunken tub which were two of our favorite features. Our room was spacious and located between the two swimming pools. There are small luxurious touches that we appreciated like the pillow menu, turndown service, and thoughtful welcome notes.
Afternoon Relaxation at Layana Resort and Spa
After getting settled we headed down to the main pool to enjoy the sun and great weather. We bounced between the pool and oceanfront chairs before taking a walk down famous Long Beach.
As you can imagine, the massive stretch of sand lives up to its name! It is the most popular beach on the island, and for good reason. The incredible golden sand and clear turquoise water is surrounded by a mix of luxury resorts, eco-hotels, and lively beach bars.
Just before sunset we headed to the hotel bar which serves up happy hour specials. Ice cold Chang beers are always nice, but the mojitos really hit the spot for sunset! Also, make sure to try the passionfruit margarita if you get a chance.
Two Magical Pools at Layana Resort and Spa
Layana Beachfront Pool
There are actually two spectacular swimming pools at Layana Resort and Spa! While they are just a quick walk away from each other, the pools have a completely different design and vibe to them.
The most popular in the hot afternoon sun is the beachfront pool. Cold drinks are served as well as food on their all day menu. Enjoy the small shallow dip pool with a larger main pool that overlooks the beach.

Below the main reception building is where the second pool is located. It will be hard to miss because it is the first view you get when you check into the hotel. Layana Resort and Spa has a strong focus on health and you’ll love starting your wellness journey a salt water swimming pool!
Layana Resort Morning Breakfast
Breakfast at Layana Resort and Spa is served in the main restaurant just steps from the ocean. There’s nothing better than starting your day with a delicious coffee right on the beach! The buffet has a large variety of options with a mix of both Thai and international specialties.
Layana Resort has a lot of European guests and this was definitely reflected in the buffet. From the omelette station to the fruit & yogurt bar and even pretzels and bratwurst, there was truly something to eat for everyone. You can also order a bowl of noodle soup or traditional Thai curries.
One thing we didn’t expect to see was a bloody mary bar! Between the fresh pressed juices and breakfast smoothies there was an old fashion drink cart where you could mix up your own drink.
Exploring the Island of Koh Lanta
On this trip to Koh Lanta all our time was spent enjoying the resort! Being our third visit to the island, we were more than happy to relax, take in the hotel amenities, and hang out at our beach.
However, if you want to explore Koh Lanta while staying at Layana Resort and Spa we highly recommend it. You’ll be in the perfect location near all of the best activities and sights. The island is known for its laid-back lifestyle, long golden beaches, and stunning nature.
You can rent a motorbike or ask the reception to hire a driver for the day to take you around. Some stuff not to miss are Old Town, Mu Ko Lanta National Park, and beach hopping down the west coast. For more of the best things to do on Koh Lanta check out our article below!

Layana Resort Spa
While the property is amazing in itself, the ultimate form of relaxation can be found at the Linger Longer Spa. The Layana Resort Spa has a blend of east and west health remedies with beauty and massage treatments.
Take in the unique salt spa and sauna, or get a massage in one of the six dedicated rooms. There is even a hydro pool and an outdoor area specifically for foot massages! The Layana Resort Spa is the perfect addition to your already relaxing 5 star experience.
Romantic Sunset Dinner on the Beach
Just when we thought our stay couldn’t get any better… On our last night in Koh Lanta we had one of the most romantic meals of our lives! After another great happy hour, we ate dinner under the stars with our toes in the sand.
Layana Resort prepared a feast for us as we watched the sun go down over the sea. We had a tasty mix of seafood and traditional dishes.
They even prepared Khao Soi which is one of our favorite meals from Northern Thailand! If you’re visiting Layana for a special occasion make sure to ask about dinner on the beach.
