When we first pulled into El Chalten our bus stopped at the visitors center so everyone could grab maps and learn some basic information about the park. It was then that we saw a small stream of people pass us and head up the steep incline to the top of the mountain that towered over town. Before looking for what else to do in El Chalten we instantly knew we had to see it from above! The Los Condores and Las Aguilas trails we’re not only the easy hiking warm up our legs needed, but would also give us the best view of El Chalten Argentina.

Getting to the Los Condores and Las Aguilas Hikes
To get to the start of this hike from El Chalten you’ll head over the river and to the visitors center. Directly across from the small building is the start of the trail. It’s important to note that you will start both Los Condores and Las Aguilas from the same spot.
The beginning of this easy El Chalten hike is the same for the first 15 minutes or so, and it’s only until you get towards the top of the mountain that the trails diverge. When you get to the fork in the path a right will take to Las Aguilas and view of the lagoon. Then a left will bring you to Los Condores and the best El Chalten view! The trails are very well marked so you shouldn’t have any problem finding your way.
Las Aguilas Trail
When you do come to the fork in the path we recommend starting with Las Aguilas trail. The sign says 30 minutes, but we found it to be a few minutes quicker. Walking away from the large mountains and town it’s just a short walk until you get to the end viewpoint.
When you get there take your time to enjoy the mountains and awesome view of the blue lagoon in the distance. For a better El Chalten view, you can hike up the small mound to your left for an even more incredible shot of the valley.
Los Condores Trail & El Chalten View
Now that you’ve seen the lagoon it’s time to get the best view of El Chalten! Make your way back to the point where the two trails separate, and walk the short distance to the viewpoint. It was so windy the day we went up so we didn’t stay long.
However, if you’re looking for what to do in El Chalten for lunch this would be the perfect place. Grab a comfy rock and look out over the colorful town and take in the mountain air. The trail is named after the wild looking Condor birds, so keep an eye out for the many flying above!
Preparing for Longer El Chalten Hikes
To be honest, the Los Condores and Las Aguilas hikes won’t truly blow you away the way Mount Fitz or Laguna Torre will. Yet with so many amazing hikes from El Chalten, this was perfect beginning to our visit in this famous part of Patagonia. Since you’re likely going to be spending a lot of time in town you might as well make the easy hike up for this gorgeous El Chalten view!
