10 Best Things to do in Tiverton Rhode Island
1. Morning Coffee at Coastal Roasters
Ready to kickstart your day in Tiverton RI? Coastal Roasters was our go-to coffee spot in town. The interior gives off cute cafe vibes, while the outside has colorful chairs set up on the water.
Pick from an array of coffee, espresso, and bakery items. Then grab your treats and enjoy everything on the Adirondack chairs looking over the water.
Don’t know what to order? On a hot day, a dirty iced chai latte with cinnamon was our favorite.
2. Fogland Beach in Tiverton RI
Fogland Beach is the place to be in the summertime in Tiverton! This unique black stone beach is a favorite for locals and tourists alike.
Popular water sports include kayaking, windsurfing, and you can even do some hiking in the nature reserve. Although Tiverton Rhode Island does not have beaches the caliber of nearby Newport, Fogland is the perfect place to swim and relax on a hot day.
3. Visit the Historic 4 Corners of Tiverton Rhode Island
A visit to the historic district is a must while you’re in the town of Tiverton Rhode Island. Take a trip back in time as you stroll by the colorful old buildings, many of which date back to the early 1800’s.
Here you can do some antique shopping, grab some local jams and cheeses, and take in the history. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on Gray’s Ice Cream. This popular Tiverton RI spot regularly has a line in the summer!
4. Weetamoo Woods & Pardon Gray Preserve
One thing you may not know about Tiverton is that it’s made up of some very dense forest. In fact, over 650 acres make up the Weetamoo Woods with over 7 miles of walking trails to explore. There’s even an additional 2 miles of trails in the Pardon Gray Preserve next door.
Weeatamoo was named after the famous Native American woman who led the Pocasset tribe in the 17th century. Stroll through the endless rows of oak and holly trees, and keep your eye out for rare birds. This makes for a great late summer or fall activity when you can truly see the colors pop.
5. Evelyn’s Drive-In for Lunch in Tiverton RI
If you’re looking for a great seafood lunch stop head to Evelyn’s Drive-In! In business since 1969, this Tiverton gem has tables right on the water. They’re known for having some of the best clams in Rhode Island along with other tasty seafood treats.
We enjoyed local calamari on a nice spring day here and it was so delicious! However, as one of the best things to do in Tiverton, Evelyn’s will be especially busy in the summer. So if you’re not ordering takeout make sure to show up early.

6. Audubon Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge
By now you can tell most of the best things to in Tiverton RI involve eating or the great outdoors. Emilie Ruecker is a 1.6 mile walking trail that runs along the gorgeous Sakonnet River. Keep an eye out for wildflowers, birds, and more native plants.
7. Tiverton Rhode Island Sapowet Marsh
Just south of the Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge sits the gorgeous Sapowet Marsh. There’s a small beach here that leads to Sakonnet Point where you can get another stunning view of the river.
This is a nice place for fishing and hunting, while also being home to some of Rhode Islands’ rarest birds. Some interesting birds you might see here are the Virginia Rails, Least Terns, and Buffleheads.
8. Fort Barton Site & Woods
Time to see some more history in the town of Tiverton Rhode Island! Fort Barton is a collection of walking paths and ruins that date back to the Revolutionary War. The site is named after Lt. Col. William Barton, who in 1778 led his men against the British Army in the battle of Rhode Island.
Once you make it up the steep hill, climb the observation tower for a view of Narragansett Bay. Along the 3.5 miles of trail, you’ll see some of the rocks that made up the fortification as well as more native plant life to the area.
9. Walk or Bike the Sakonnet River Bridge
Many of the best things to do in Tiverton RI are around the Sakonnet River. So it only makes sense that you’ll get the best view from the Sakonnet River Bridge!
The four-lane bridge takes you from Tiverton to neighboring Portsmouth. While you can drive over it, there is also a separate walking and biking lane. Take a trip over the bridge for incredible shots of Tiverton RI and the river below.
10. Hit the Boathouse in Tiverton RI for Dinner
We hope you saved some room for dinner! If you’re looking for somewhere on the fancier side that has amazing meals, definitely plan a night out at the Boathouse. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful views of Mt Hope Bay.
The Boathouse is also a great spot for some drinks on a warm summer night. Sitting on the Adirondack lawn chairs with a beer or wine will make for the perfect sunset in Tiverton Rhode Island.

Next time please look into the Tiverton Dog Park. We had the groundbreaking last weekend and are planning for a summer grand opening.
It will be located next to the Tiverton Library on Bulgarmarsh Road. It will have areas for both big and small dogs.
