Vietjet is a popular budget airline based out of Vietnam that runs routes all around Southeast Asia. Over the years, we have flown with Vietnam Air several times in and out of the country! Here’s the details of of our most recent flight traveling round trip from Da Nang Vietnam to Singapore. Hopefully, our experience in this Vietjet Air review will help you decide if it’s the right airline for you!
Vietjet Air Review
Booking Our Vietjet Flight
After spending a month in Da Nang Vietnam our visa was coming to an end! The thing is we really wanted to stay longer. Unfortunately, the visa rules in Vietnam have changed recently.
This meant instead of a 3 month stay we were only able to get a 1 month single entry. Therefore, to extend our time in the country, we had to leave and come back! This has since changed again, but we it caused a little bit of a hiccup in our plans at the time.
The term “visa run” is thrown around a lot in Southeast Asia and that is essentially what we did. Our Vietjet Air flight was round trip from Da Nang to Singapore. However, we planned for two nights in Singapore before returning to spend another month in Vietnam.
Whenever we’re planning a trip we use Skyscanner to search the different routes and companies. Once we had the flight we wanted we booked it directly on the Vietjet website.
Personally, we don’t use any third party booking sites like Expedia. From our experience, it’s always easier to work directly with the airline after your search in case something goes awry along your travels.

Checking in for Vietjet Air
If it’s your first time flying with this company pay attention to this part of our Vietjet review! A few days before leaving we got an email saying that our flight had been changed. It was basically a confirmation of the original itinerary, but then said if your Vietjet Airline flight isn’t different to ignore the email.
After triple checking several times, we confirmed that nothing had changed and stopped worrying about it. Then the night before taking off we attempted to check in online. This was another part that was slightly confusing about Vietjet Air!
The screen said we paid but there was also another prompt saying that we needed to confirm it so we wouldn’t lose our tickets. We were so confused on if our original payment went through that we actually pulled up our credit card statement to confirm it.
Finally, after reading the small fine print we saw that you couldn’t check in for international flights online with Vietjet. We would have to wait to check in until we got to the airport in Da Nang.
Da Nang International Airport
When we got to the airport the line for the flight was completely full. Good thing we arrived 2.5 hours early! The line actually moved fast and 20 minutes later we were officially checked in with Vietjet Airline.
Keep in mind you will need an onward flight to enter Singapore. We also did the Singapore Electronic entry form to speed up going through customs after we landed! The rest of the time at Da Nang International Airport was spent in the Orchid Lounge.
We travel with Priority Pass which we get through our credit card! It gives us access to airport lounges around the world.
After some coffee and breakfast we headed to our gate right at 11:30am to board. For this particular Vietjet flight we had to get on a shuttle bus so definitely don’t be late to your gate in Da Nang!
Vietjet Air Review In Flight Experience
Da Nang → Singapore
When we boarded the plane we entered though the back and saw we were one of the last seats. It was a completely full flight! Being on the second bus that arrived, the boarding finished the moment we sat down and we were getting ready for take off.
For the actual flight with Vietjet Air we didn’t mind the seats. They were leather and a little worn, but didn’t feel too squished together. Once again Vietjet Airline is a budget company so we didn’t have the highest of expectations.
Food was served if you pre-ordered a meal and drinks were for purchase from the carts. We had just eaten in the airport club so we were fine not having anything. On their menu it shows cups of noodles, hot meals, and other snacks for sale.
Singapore → Da Nang
Two days later, we were on our way back to Vietnam! If you have a chance to spend some time in Singapore we highly recommend it.
It’s an amazing city with so much to see and do. The food at the local hawker centers is also some of the best in Southeast Asia!

We were actually bummed when we found out Vietjet Air is out of Terminal 4. This is because it’s separate from the other terminals where all the best Priority Pass lounges are.
Changi Airport is also known as one of the best in the world for its unique indoor attractions. While Terminal 4 is kind of isolated from that, there is one amazing attraction to experience.
If you can make sure to visit the famous Singapore Jewel in Terminal 1. This massive indoor waterfall is certainly something you won’t see at any other airport. Just make sure you give yourself enough time as you have to take a shuttle to terminal 4 then pass through customs!
Check In For Our 2nd Vietjet Air Flight
The check in counter was completely full with passengers as soon as it opened. Our visas for Vietnam were analyzed thoroughly and we were given tags for our carry on baggage. Arriving a couple hours early, we spent the time in the one lounge that was offered to us in Terminal 4.
Our flight was packed full again just as the first was! Thankfully, we had a window seat and had the scenic views leaving Singapore. If you’ve never flown in or out of Changi Airport before it’s quite spectacular.
This is because Singapore is home to the 2nd largest port in the world! While flying on Vietjet Air we were able to see hundreds of cargo ships below.
The actual Vietjet flight didn’t offer anything extra just like our first experience. However, it wasn’t a big deal as it’s a relatively quick flight.
It actually said 3 hours on our ticket but both flights only took around 2.5 hours. There are no TV’s so if you’re not good at sitting still make sure to have a book or some music to listen to.
Vietjet Air Review Final Thoughts
So would we fly with Vietjet again? Why not! Surprisingly, both flights that we had arrived earlier than scheduled. In the current world of travel, that’s basically unheard of isn’t it?
When traveling to and from Vietnam over the years we have always had a decent experience with Vietjet Airline. It’s a budget airline with no frills or extras, but it gets you from A to B.
If Vietjet was the best route or price for our destination we would certainly book with them again. The only other airline with a direct route on the dates/times we needed was Singapore Air. If you can believe it, it was almost double the price!

Hi B&D,
Why did you stay a month in Da Nang?

Hey Tony,
We stayed at these nice boutique apartments on the beach side:

Definitely recommend!
I use them internally in Thailand and find them good, planes have seen some beers but ok.

Vietjet plays same song on repeat before take off and after landing. After two flights this week with them I am about to loose my mind. I have heard this horrible song “one day I will touch your soul” for probably 2 hours total. A small thing, but really ruins it for me. I will not fly with them if I can help it again. It’s probably suppose to be calming, but so annoying.
