This isn’t your typical laid back paradise in the Ionian Sea, but instead a massive island that is fully developed and has been welcoming travelers for years. The main hub and most visited area of the island is the centrally located Corfu old town. With an abundance of history and tradition, a delicious food scene has popped up. The Corfu restaurants take customary Greek food and add local flair, making this the perfect small city to travel and eat your way through. In the early morning, head to the cute cafe of Starenio on one of the most charming streets in Corfu Old Town. After first walking in and seeing the large case of delicious pies, it will be hard to pick just one!
Something that makes Starenio unique to other bakeries in town is that they offer meat, veggie, and even vegan breakfast pies. We had both the spinach with cheese and a mixed Mediterranean vegan pie, which was the perfect Corfu food to start our day. Make sure to pair it with a morning cup of coffee or fresh orange juice!

Order: Pork Souvlaki Portion

While the menu is filled with everything from greek salads to baked feta, this typically packed Corfu restaurant is best known for their Souvlaki. It came with three large sticks of pork are served with crispy fries, pita bread, and a yellow mayo dip.
We tried a falafel wrap as well, but the Souvlaki was the clear winner! The meat is seasoned perfectly and the view of the main square was lovely for lunch. If all the tables are full, you can also head upstairs and sit on the beautiful balcony overlooking Corfu Old Town.
Corfu Town Afternoon Snack

One thing it won’t take long for you to realize when visiting Corfu is the random juice bars all over old town. After three weeks of island hopping, this was the first time we saw juice bars in Greece. It really made our day!
For €2.50 we had a large orange, carrot, and ginger juice that we sipped on as we strolled through the colorful streets and Corfu restaurants. If you’re looking for more fruit to go with your juice, try the fresh cherries here.
Dinner (Best Gyros Corfu Town)

This was our favorite Corfu restaurant, and it was so good we came back to more than once! The homemade traditional Corfu food is all delicious, but it was the Gyros that really blew us away.
Something that is very important to know before visiting Corfu is that the Gyros have a SPECIAL sauce on them. This elevated these street sandwiches in a way we didn’t know possible, while also potentially ruining all future Gyros for us in Greece.
Our waiter explained that this red sauce is only found on Gyros here, and it sets the Corfu food apart from other Greek islands. Although we would later find out they use a similar sauce in Northern Greece, wow was it good!
The tomato-based gravy was the perfect addition to one of our already favorite foods. When you travel to Corfu don’t miss out on trying this specialty of the island.
At Taverna Ninos, you’ll also find many fresh home cooked meats and veggies in the window daily. We split a Greek Salad and wine to go with our Gyros, which ended up being one of our favorite meals in Greece. Be sure to check out more of our complete guide to Greek food before your first visit.

Would a Corfu travel day really be complete without ice cream? We went to Ice Cream Bochoti, as they’re known for making classic greek yogurt into yummy ice cream flavors.
Our favorite was the Greek yogurt and honey and the Greek yogurt cherry, but they don’t stop there! You can get everything from chocolate to Baklava as your delicious dessert.
