What to Know About the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone
Before we tell you about our own stay, there are some important things you should know about the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone. Here are the essentials about this fun and upbeat beach town! Be sure to leave us a comment at the bottom if there is something we missed.
1. Puerto Vallarta is known as one of the most gay-friendly cities in Mexico and the Romantic Zone is the epicenter! We loved the welcoming and friendly vibe to this town.
2. The nightlife in the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone is one of the many draws to the area. You’ll find an abundance of nightclubs, pubs, and beach bars.
3. This part of Puerto Vallarta draws in a good mix of travelers and ex-pats. It’s also known as an excellent place to live for digital nomads.
4. The food scene is just as diverse as the people in the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone! You can find everything from street tacos and pizza to smoothie bowls and sushi.
5. The Romantic Zone is the most popular place to stay in Puerta Vallarta, but there are many other hot spots to enjoy. We will dive deeper into the other sections of the city later on in this article.
Arriving in Romantic Zone Puerto Vallarta
When we first got to the Romantic Zone we were so excited! Coming from the backpacker-friendly Sayulita, the long sandy beach and clean city streets felt like a nice change. The Romantic Zone was bursting with colors and music, creating an energy we always love when traveling.
Although it does cater to the LGBTQ community, Puerto Vallarta makes it known that they are open to any and all visitors. In fact, it’s even won awards for being the friendliest city in the world! We couldn’t wait to get to our place, drop our bags, and start exploring this exciting part of town.
Best Things to do in the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone
There are so many fun and exciting things to do in Puerto Vallarta, and many of them take place in and around the Romantic Zone! Below are some of our favorite activities in this unique seaside city.
Street Art: Admire the colorful street art scene of Puerto Vallarta. Everywhere you go you’ll see paint bursting from the wall celebrating the friendly nature of the city.
Spa Time: How about a spa day? Get a massage at many of the businesses in town or right on the beach with a view.
Stroll the Boardwalk: The boardwalk goes along the beach and by several great restaurants. You can follow it on the ocean all the way to old town.
Eat Your Heart Out: There are endless restaurants and street taco stands all around the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone. Not up for traditional Mexican food? You will find plenty of international specialties as well.
Beach Day: Many travelers come to Puerto Vallarta for the beach. Lay a towel down for a relaxing day, or rent a chair and umbrella from one of the many beach bars.
Boat Cruise: Whether you’re into deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, or just looking to party, there is every type of boat cruise available from Puerto Vallarta. From the months of December to March you can even go whale watching!
Fiesta: Did someone say party?? The Romantic Zone has some of the best clubs and bars in the city with music pumping day and night.

Local Feel – Hacienda Escondida Puerto Vallarta – Wonderful escape in the center of the Romantic Zone. Homestyle local decore and welcoming feel.
Hostel Life – Los Muertos Hostal – Clean and cozy hostel while also being a budget-friendly place to meet other travelers.
Explore More of Puerto Vallarta
Now that you know about the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone, it’s time to learn about other places to visit along the cities coast! This part of our guide goes North from the Romantic Zone all the way up to Nuevo Vallarta.
Downtown: Just North of the Romantic Zone is the old historic downtown. Here you can see the famous Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Malecon Boardwalk, and a gorgeous main plaza.
Hotel Zone: Further up the beach are some of Puerto Vallarta’s most exclusive hotels. Although there are plenty of 5-star resorts, the beaches in this area aren’t known as the best. This is also where many of the cruise ships come in.
Marina Vallarta: More hotels with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and bars to enjoy. If you like to play golf check out the Marina Vallarta Club.
Nuevo Vallarta: Full of high-end resorts and a stunning beach area. This part of the city caters to tourists looking for an all-inclusive hotel experience, but you can still easily take a taxi to Romantic Zone Puerto Vallarta.
Bonus Beach Town: If you have some extra time consider visiting Punta Mita! This exclusive peninsula is home to some of Mexico’s finest 5-star resorts and beaches.
