One of the best things to do while in Split is hop on a ferry and explore one of the close by islands. The easiest and most inexpensive day trip is from Split to Supetar on Brac Island. Here’s everything you need to know before making the journey! Including ferry information, fun cafes, and the best beach in Supetar Croatia.
How to Get From Split to Supetar Brac
On our most recent visit to Croatia, we decided to take the ferry from Split to Supetar on Brac Island. We chose this because we didn’t have a ton of time, but still wanted to make it to the islands.
The ferry runs regularly with multiple crossings per day. They also go to the towns of Bol and Milna which are totally worth seeing. Check out our complete guide to the Spit to Brac ferry here.
We headed to the port the night before and got a small piece of paper that had all the crossing times. The next morning, we woke up got some work done until it was time for our Brac Island adventure!
We ended up catching the 10:45am ferry which had us arriving 50 minutes later. One thing to know is that there are a few different locations for the ferries in Split. Make sure you head to the right terminal and leave yourself some extra time to get your tickets.
Buying Our Supetar Croatia Ferry Tickets
After showing up a half an hour before departure, finding the ticket counter was a little confusing. Also, there was a long line for our ferry which was leaving soon. You could feel the tension in the air as it neared departure time and everyone was still trying to get on!
Luckily, we made it on board the Split to Supetar ferry just in time. The cost for the tickets was just โฌ5.44 each. In comparison, a one-way ticket to the popular port of Hvar is over 20 Euros.
We bought round-trip tickets and boarded the boat which was already completely full. Make sure to get a seat on the top deck if you can for the short crossing.
What’s it Like in Supetar on Brac Island?
The first thing you should know is that Supetar is a small island town. Itโs beautiful… Don’t get us wrong! Yet, it will take less than an hour to explore on foot. This is the perfect day trip if youโre looking for a nice meal, to get some beach time in, and have a relaxing afternoon away from Split.
If youโre looking for a little more adventure then there are several companies in the port to assist! You can rent a car, motorbike or ATV to drive around Brac Island.
One of our favorite towns we’ve been to in Croatia is also on Brac. We highly recommend spending some time in Bol if you have the chance.
Although we did this as a day trip, you could easily spend a night or two in Supetar Brac. There are several highly rated accommodations around the main harbor such as House Riva, Hotel Osam, and Villa Supetar.
Arriving in Supetar Croatia
As soon as the ferry pulled into Supetar, there was a fast rush of passengers and cars ready to get off. The great thing is that the boat docks right in town so you donโt have to walk far.
We had already had breakfast in Split so we grabbed a seat at one of the cute waterfront cafes for a drink. The view is so pretty overlooking the water and colorful buildings!
After a quick coffee break we spent the next hour wandering around the winding streets of town. As we mentioned, it is small but there are some stunning spots to see.
Supetar Beach Time
Once we’d seen enough of the town we were ready to enjoy the warm weather and cool down. Instead of going out for lunch, we stopped into the local bakery and market to pick up some picnic items. With our bag full of bread, olives, cheese and meats, we strolled along the water to to the main beach.
There is a nice footpath from town that makes the trip easy. Also, there are several small beaches along the way. However, we recommend making the 20 minute walk all the way to Banj Beach if you can. We ate our sandwiches, jumped in and out of the crystal clear water, and suntanned on the Supetar Brac pebbles.
One hour quickly turned into two as the day slowly passed. We probably could’ve made the earlier ferry, but we could hardly pull ourselves off the beach!
Ending Our Fun Day in Supetar Brac
After heading back into town, we stopped at another cafe until it was time to leave. We enjoyed some more relaxation and tasting a local beer as we waited for our ferry.
The boat back to Split actually docks early because they need time to load all the cars and passengers on. We grabbed a seat again on the top deck and soaked in the views as we pulled away from Brac Island.
If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive day trip from Split then Supetar Croatia could be for you! This was such a fun afternoon for us and totally worth the visit.
