From the moment we walked into the NH Collection Köln Mediapark, we loved the vibe of this hotel! It had a high-end yet fun atmosphere that made us feel right at home. NH Collection is known for its beautiful properties around the world, and Köln Mediapark is set right on a small lake in the center of the city. Here are our favorite moments from our stay and why you’ll love NH Collection Köln Mediapark!
5 Tips For Your NH Hotel Stay
1. If you’re arriving by car, the parking is right under the hotel and super easy. It should only take around 30 minutes to reach the hotel from the airport.
2. Book a room with a “lake view,” as there is a small body of water in front of the hotel. The best part is that you can see the Köln Cathedral from the higher floors.
3. Breakfast is absolutely amazing. Every morning, there is a large spread of both local and international specialties. Don’t forget about the small à la carte menu, where you can get several dishes made to order.
4. Visit the Gold Bar after dark. The popular space next to the lobby completely transforms at night, lighting up in magical fashion.
5. Look for the hotel if you’re climbing the 500+ steps to the top of the Köln Cathedral! You can easily spot NH Collection Köln Mediapark, as it is set next to one of the tallest buildings in the city.
Arriving at NH Collection Köln Mediapark
It was our first visit to the city, and we were so excited to explore. Köln Mediapark is a quiet and beautiful area just a quick 20 minutes walk from the historic center. We really loved the location (book here) as it was just outside of the hustle and bustle, but still easy to get to all the different neighborhoods.
Over two days, we saw Köln by both walking and using the fast subway system. After visiting some of the most popular attractions, we were happy to return to our hotel for the night to relax.
The lobby is a mix of red, white, and gold—a theme that runs throughout the hotel. We really loved the small welcome stand where you could pick from different teas, sparkling waters, and small candies.
We arrived around 2pm, which was a little bit early for check-in. Nevertheless, we were able to get into our room right away!
Room With an Amazing View
Obviously, your hotel room can make or break any stay. As we entered the door, we were immediately taken aback by the view. Set high on the seventh floor, our room overlooked the lake with the Köln Cathedral in the distance.
The bed with comfy, but for me (Brigitte) the star of the show was the bathtub. After a long day of walking over 20,000 steps around the city, there was nothing better than taking a warm bath and relaxing with a glass of wine.
The bathroom products were everything you could ask for on a two night stay. I really loved the silky hair mask and body lotion.
Another thing that we put to good use at NH Collection Köln Mediapark was the fast steamer. Honestly, this should be a staple at every hotel in Europe!
Our clothing always seems to get wrinkled from being packed and unpacked so often. Due to this, it was nice to have the steamer available before we went out on the town.
Best Things to do in Köln
As we mentioned, we had two fun filled days to see the city! From NH Collection Köln Mediapark, we could easily get around to all the best sites and attractions.
Some of our favorite neighborhoods we went to were Altstadt (old town), the Belgian Quarter, Ehrenfield, Sudstadt, and Nippes. Köln has a rich history to discover, with a great mix old and new age architecture.
Like many other German cities, there is also an incredible amount of local food to enjoy. Be sure to stop into the world-famous FRÜH am Dom brewery for a tasty meal and kölsch beer. Below are a few more of our favorite things to do on your first visit.

NH Collection Köln Mediapark Breakfast
As big time foodies, breakfast was definitely a highlight of our stay. What we really enjoyed about the spread is that it featured many local specialties. Additionally, their take on eggs benedict with salmon (listed as Cologne Eggs on the menu) is not to be missed.
The yogurt bowls were amazing and came with over 20 different toppings to chose from. There was an entire row of fresh juices, and the meat and cheese options were also delicious. If you’re vegan, there are many different items to enjoy as well.
The Sparkling Gold Bar
Last but not least, we have the Gold Bar, which quite literally lives up to its name. When we first stopped by and had a drink it was late in the afternoon.
However, later that night when we returned to the hotel, we couldn’t believe how stunning it was! With the dark night, the Gold Bar felt like it was glowing and lighting up the entire lobby.
This is the perfect place to end your day at NH Collection Köln Mediapark. You can grab a local beer, glass of wine, or sip on one of their signature cocktails.
Would We Stay Again?
Yes! In fact, we’re already planning a return visit to Köln. We really enjoyed the area, cathedral views, and food at NH Collection Köln Mediapark.
