Undredal is one of those magical places in Norway that you’ve seen pictures of. The small town sits in the Aurlandsfjord with the stunning mountains towering above. While there may be dozens of these small enclaves around the country, Undredal Village truly stands out! Here’s why every traveler should make the trip to Undredal and some fun tips from our own visit.
How to Get to Undredal Norway
Undredal is located in the Aurlandsfjord about 13 km from the popular town of Flam. To get there you’ll have to go through a network of tunnels and down a narrow country road. Being only 15 to 20 minutes from Flam, we recommend visiting them both as part of a longer fjord itinerary.
If you’re in the area there are a few ways to get here besides using a car. From Flam, you can take a high speed RIB boat to Undredal which is an exciting way to do so. There is a FlÃ¥m to Balestrand ferry which stops in Undredal as well.

Our Visit to Undredal Norway
Waking up in the nearby town of Voss, Norway, we had a full day of adventure before visiting Undredal. That morning we took the Flamsbana train to Myrdal. Instead of riding the famous train back to town, we jumped on bikes and had one of the best days of our trip to Norway!
We rode for miles down the glorious valley with endless waterfalls surrounding us. Even in the rain, it was an afternoon we will never forget. Be sure to check out all the outdoor activities in this area of Norway including kayaking and hiking.
When we arrived in the sleepy little town of Undredal later that day we were so excited to relax and take in the scenery. After turning down the small road, this tiny village immediately captured our imagination.
Staying Overnight in Undredal Norway
Many travelers don’t have the chance to spend the night in Undredal Village. You could be short on time or simply might not be able to find anywhere to stay! For us, we actually got a bit lucky with our plans. Originally, we wanted to stay in Flam, but most hotels there were already sold out.
Fortunately, we checked Undredal and there was one place available! We ended up booking a 2 bedroom house, with a sauna, and an incredible fjord view from our outdoor deck.
Our accommodation was within walking distance to everything and we ate at the only restaurant in town that evening. This is where we got to try the unique brown goat cheese (they even use it to make cheesecake!) from Undredal and traditional Norwegian meatballs.
It’s important to note that if you do stay overnight there is only one small store and one restaurant. If you’re there multiple days you may want to bring some other food supplies with you.
After dinner, we spent a leisurely night on our balcony overlooking the Fjord. Since we were there in early August it didn’t get dark until almost 11pm. Just before going to bed, we watched as the soft clouds turned pink over the Aurlandsfjord.
