We’ve now been to Croatia several times and fell in love with country and the beautiful Adriatic coastline. Our first Croatia travel was back in 2018 to Dubrovnik and the southern islands.
On our most recent trip, we lived in the UNESCO town of Trogir, and used it as our base to explore more of the Dalmatian Coastline. We visited so many amazing destinations such as Split, Sibinek, and Makarska.
Many travelers will start their journey by flying into Split or Dubrovnik, and use the ferry system to hop around the islands. Yet, as you’ll see in our articles, you can’t sleep on the Croatian mainland either!

Money: The Euro has been used throughout Croatia since early 2023.
Location: Croatia is located in Southeastern Europe. It borders Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Italy.
Language: Croatian is the official language, but you may hear Bosnian or Serbian being spoken in some places.
Seasons: Unsurprisingly, the most popular time to visit is during the warm summer months. This is when you can take advantage of the stunning beaches, islands, and Adriatic Sea. One of our best Croatia travel tips is to see the country during shoulder season before or after the peak months of July and August.
What to Eat & Drink: Croatian cuisine is so delicious! It features a great mix of seafood and classic Balkan cooking, with influence from Italy and other Mediterranean countries.
