How Golden Horn Beach Got its Name
Golden Horn Beach got its nickname from the unique shape, as it’s a peninsula that stretches out into the gorgeous Adriatic Sea. Also known as Zlatni Rat, the long pebble beach with mountains above, and crystal clear water makes for some jaw dropping scenery. The position and shape of Golden Horn actually changes due to the wind, only adding to its allure as Croatia’s most famous beach.
How to Get to Zlatni Rat
The long pebble beach sits on the southern end of Brač island. This makes Croatia’s most famous beach just a short walk from the center of Bol village. Most people stay in this area since it’s where the few bars and restaurants are located, and it’s also where the ferries arrive. Not to worry, the best beach in Bol is still right within your grasp!
Walking: Looking out at the ferry port from the center of town, take a right and head down the coast. You will walk off the main strip, and onto a pedestrian street that’s filled with small stands and cafes. As you get closer to Zlatni Rat you should see the tip of the beach (or horn) sticking out. This means you’re almost there! In total, it will take you about 20 minutes from the center of Bol to get to Golden Horn Beach.
Ferry: If you’re one to arrive in style you can also take a ferry to the beach! In the popular summer months boats park in Bol harbor offering transport for a small fee. The boats also park themselves at Golden Horn so after a day of sun you can skip the walk and flag one down.
What You’ll Find on Golden Horn Beach
Once you arrive at Golden Horn you’ll notice that there’s something for everyone! During the summer months Croatia’s most famous beach does get particularly crowded. However, it’s big enough for that not to really matter.
- Restaurants, bars, and water sport activities line the beach.
- Try wind surfing which is a popular sport on the island.
- Grab a drink at a beach bar then take a dive into the clear blue water of the Adriatic!
- Test out the water adventure park. On the left end of the beach this adult playground is super fun to hop around on.
- Grab your own little piece of paradise on the Golden Horn, and watch the sailboats fly by.
- Staying late? Head to the right side of the beach and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Croatia.
Island Tip: It’s important to note that Golden Horn is a pebble beach so make sure to wear shoes or sandals!
Sunset at Golden Horn Beach
Golden Horn Beach also takes the title for the best place in Bol to watch the sunset. Both locals and tourists fill the pebbled beach and relax as the sun sets to the west. What’s better than watching the sunset from the beach? How about soaking in the Adriatic as they sky turns red! A sunset at Golden Horn beach is definitely not to be missed.
