Background on Gardens by the Bay Singapore
Back in 2006, Singapore ran a competition for an architectural design which drew over 70 entries from 24 different countries. When the winning idea came to fruition in 2012, Singapore opened the massive Gardens by the Bay which has now become an international spectacle. The impressive display of flowers and trees from all over the world has now captivated millions of travelers.
This is part of an ongoing project where Singapore hopes to become a “City in a Garden.” Sprawling nature is not just seen at the Gardens by the Bay, but throughout Singapore where hotels, apartments, and landmarks incorporate hanging gardens and other greenery into its structures.
Cloud Forest at the Gardens by the Bay Singapore
One of the most unique things you’ll find anywhere in Asia is the Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest. This living rainforest is complete with the largest indoor waterfall in the world, its very own microclimate, and countless plants and flowers.
When you first walk in you can stand under the massive 115 foot (35 meters) tall waterfall and look up to see the hanging gardens above you. After, take a quick ride to the top of the canopy where you will then loop your way back down to the bottom. This is your chance to take in all the Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest has to offer!

Flower Dome at the Gardens by the Bay Singapore
Located just next to the Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest is the bright and beautiful Flower Dome. This humungous conservatory is filled with different plants and flowers from all over the world. The highlights for us were the many species from the Mediterranean and semi-arid subtropical region.
While these might look more traditional than the Singapore hanging gardens, they are equally as impressive. Plan to visit both the Flower Dome and the Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest in a two hour window.

Set in the center of the gardens is the iconic Supertree Grove. These giant metal trees first gave Gardens by the Bay Singapore international recognition with their unique structure. The vertical gardens that grow up the base of the trees are actually made up of over 158,000 plants and 700 different species!
The 18 massive Supertrees also generate solar power, collect rainwater, and act as natural air venting ducts for the rest of the park. You can see the tops of the trees from around the park and are a well recognized symbol of Singapore. The best part is that this area is open to the public and free for all to enjoy.

This way you can get the perfect view as the Supertrees flash their lights in a magical display along to the music. The hanging gardens are lit up for 15 minutes as the songs radiate around you.
