7 Reasons We Love Arenal Beach Javea (And You Will Too!)

Arenal Beach Javea

Have you ever been somewhere, and immediately knew it was the one? That’s exactly how we felt when we got to Arenal Beach Javea! So much so, that we even chose to live there. Here’s the story of how we found Playa del Arenal, and everything to know about this spectacular beach in Javea Spain.

Our First Visit to Playa Del Arenal Javea

After several years of full-time travel abroad, we decided to look for a home base in Europe. Spain has always been one of our favorite countries for its outdoor activities, delicious food, and way of life.

Up to this point we had made many trips to North and Southern Spain, but never the famous Costa Blanca! We started our time with one month in the town of Calpe. While we did the beautiful beaches, Calpe had more of an older crowd and less people around our age.

That’s when we discovered Arenal Beach Javea! From our very first view of the beach and Montgo Mountain behind it, we were in love. Javea just had a special spark about it, and a lot more going on than other places we had seen.

We also liked that old town and the stunning port were just a quick drive away. As you’ll see in this article, there are so many things to love about Playa del Arenal Javea!

7 Things We Love About Arenal Beach Javea

1. Arenal Beach Spain is Easy to Get to

One of the best parts about Arenal Beach is its close proximity to several major airports. In fact, it’s almost right in the middle of both Alicante and Valencia.

This made it super easy to get to whenever we would head out to other parts of Europe. We especially liked that we could find cheaper flights on Skyscanner since we could pick between two airports.

After flying in, you’ll have a few options to get to Arenal Beach Javea. You can easily rent a car in Alicante or Valencia and make the 1 hour drive.

We always use this website to find the best deals and compare companies. A rental car can be a great option if you have a longer stay in Javea to see other parts of Costa Blanca.

However, know that it’s very walkable town. If you don’t want to drive, you can also take the Beniconnect Bus from either airport.

2. The Montgó Massif

While Arenal Beach Javea is gorgeous in itself, the defining feature actually sits behind! The Montgo is a massive mountain that shoots up into the sky. It’s jagged appearance almost looks like a volcano (don’t worry it’s not), or a sleeping elephant which is where it gets its name.

There are so many great beaches in Spain, but rarely do you see one with an other-worldly view like this. Just underneath is Javea Old Town with the port on the water. For adventure enthusiasts, you can even hike up to the top inside Montgó Natural Park.

3. Crystal Clear Mediterranean Sea

We’ve been to beaches all over the world… From the Greek Islands to Maui, and even Thailand. Yet, there’s nothing quite like the Mediterranean Sea!

Arenal Beach Javea has some of the clearest waters we’ve ever seen. Most summer days the sea will be completely calm for you to enjoy.

We actually had a winter let during our time here which ran from September through June. In the winter months (if you even want to call it that), you would get the occasional wavy day which brought the surfers out.

It’s common to see people swimming year-round at Playa del Arenal. Still, for the best weather, you’ll want to visit between May and October.

4. Awesome Restaurants & Bars

Another reason we absolutely love Arenal Beach Spain is the abundance of great places to eat. There is a line of restaurants right on the water, ranging from Michelin star establishments to beach bar-style tapa joints.

The wide variety of restaurants at Arenal Beach Javea has something for every type of traveler. Many offer the menu del dia for lunch as well, which gives you a 3 course meal at a great price.

One of our favorite spots for a sunset drink is La Bambula on the far end. You can find happy hour drinks for wine for 3 Euros, and La Fortuna is a must for brunch or dinner.

Geographic is right on the center and offers comfy chairs to remote work or relax. Be sure to stop by Nostro for a coffee, and Austriaco-Cafewien for a bakery treat or delicious slice of cake!

5. Outdoor Adventures at Arenal Beach Javea

This part of Spain is known for its outdoor activities that nature lovers will enjoy. In addition to the hiking trails which surround Javea, you’ll find a coastal path that runs directly in between Arenal Beach and the port area.

We loved walking, running, bike riding along this coastal track as cars aren’t allowed to drive on one side of it. In the summer, there are even pop up beach bars along this stretch of coastline.

For the best experience in Javea you’ll want to get out on the water! There are places on the right end of Arenal Beach that rent kayaks, stand up paddleboards, jet skis, and even boats to take out.

6. Exploring More of Javea

After you’ve been to Arenal Beach in Javea, know that there’s so much more to discover in this town. Just tucked back from the beach are many more shops and local restaurants.

One of our favorite areas to visit is Javea Port. Here you’ll find more awesome beach bars and places to eat, and another great place to swim. In comparison with the sandy Arenal, La Grava Beach has small pebbles which makes for a different experience.

Just above the port is the incredible Javea Old Town. This feels like a different world than the touristic beaches, and the colorful streets are so much fun to stroll around. Read our full guide to the Old Town here before your trip!

You’ll want to hit the Javea Old Town Market which takes place every Thursday. Also, make the drive to Granadella Beach which is 10 minutes from Arenal.

7. Arenal Beach is a Great Base on the Costa Blanca

The last reason we fell in love with Playa del Arenal is how great of a base it was to explore more of the Costa Blanca from. As we mentioned, Alicante and Valencia are not far away.

Benidorm is also a popular area for British travelers, and those looking to let loose and party. We recently made a visit to the colorful beach town of Villajoyosa which is totally worth seeing.

If you’re looking for somewhere close to Arenal Beach Spain, check out the village of Moraira. This small seaside town holds a fun Friday market and several beautiful beaches. Heading inland, you’ll also want to visit Jesus Pobre for a taste of local life.
