Lefkos Karpathos is what Greek island dreams are made of! From the moment you see the stunning Lefkos Beach, you’ll understand why it has been drawing travelers in for years to this amazing village. Here’s what to know about Lefkos Beach, where to stay, and all about our experience in Karpathos Greece.
How to Get to Lefkos Karpathos
Unlike many of the island’s most popular attractions, Lefkos is located on the west coast of Karpathos. The best way to get there is to rent a car which you can read more about here. We always use this website to find the best deals and compare rates between companies.
It’s about a 45 minute drive from the capital of Pigadia where the main ferry port is. We highly recommend stopping in the colorful mountain town of Menetes along the way.
Keep in mind that the winding mountain roads of Karpathos are for experienced drivers only. There is a public bus which runs select routes, with more coming available in the peak summer months.
We actually included Lefkos in a longer one week itinerary around Karpathos Island. Lefkos Beach was our first stop before continuing onto see more of the incredible sites and beaches.
As you’ll see in this article, we only stayed one night in Lefkos village. However, we could’ve easily spent a few days relaxing at the beach, and enjoying the delicious traditional food at the restaurants and bars.
After Lefkos Karpathos you can drive north to see the unique mountain village of Olympos. This was definitely a highlight for us and not to be missed! You can even take a boat tour to the nearby Saria Island from Diafani Port.
Just make sure to leave yourself plenty of time to explore the east coast of Karpathos. It’s filled with unreal beaches such as Apella and Kyra Panagia that are worth visiting after Lefkos.
Our Visit to Lefkos Karpathos
Our first trip to Karpathos was back in 2021. We had honestly never heard of this Greek island before getting a local tip at our hotel on Rhodes.
The Greek man told us there are so many awesome places to visit in the Dodecanese Islands. Yet, for somewhere truly special, we had to go to Karpathos!
After visiting Rhodes, Symi, and Halki, it was surely going to take a lot to impress us. Nevertheless, Karpathos ended up being our favorite island of them all.
With so much to see, we decided immediately that we’d need a rental car to explore. This allowed us the freedom to see towns like Lefkos Karpathos, and get to the far reaches of the island on our own time.
We stayed at Zorbas Studios which we really enjoyed. They have basic studios with beautiful views, and it’s located just a quick walk from Lefkos Beach. On our next trip we’re definitely checking out THE SHIP 2 which is a harbor accommodation overlooking the water.
Luckily, we managed to get an early check-in at our hotel. This gave us the entire day to hang out on Lefkos Beach and soak it all in.
About Lefkos Beach Karpathos
Without a doubt, Lefkos is one of the best beaches on Karpathos. As soon as you see the sparkling Aegean Sea and soft sands, you’ll understand why!
The actual village sits above the beach. Several restaurants and shops line the waterfront, but the hotels are quite spread out up into the mountainside.
Lefkos is made up of three different beautiful bays to enjoy. The calm waters and different coves make this area perfect for couples or families traveling with kids.
In the summer months, you’ll find organized sun loungers you can rent for the day. Below is a quick break down of the three Lefkos beaches!
- Lefkos Beach: The most popular of the 3 beaches in Lefkos Karpathos.
- West Bay: Great for snorkeling and just a short walk from Lefkos Beach.
- Frangolimiona Beach: The northernmost beach in Lefkos Karpathos. Known for having waves as opposed to the other bays which are calmer.
For us, this is exactly the type of small beach town that we never wanted to leave. We could see ourselves staying for a week and spending our days reading, swimming, and enjoying the local Greek food.
While it might be too quiet for some travelers (depending on your style), it was perfect for us! On our next visit to the island we will plan to have several very chill and relaxing days at Lefkos Karpathos.
Where to Eat at Lefkos Beach Karpathos
While there are a handful of great restaurants to enjoy, there were a few that really stuck out to us. For breakfast our go-to spot was Nautilus Snack Bar.
This is a great place to grab a coffee and sit overlooking the water. One morning we ordered a scrumptious Greek omelette here before heading off to swim.
Our favorite lunch place is Zorbas Greek Taverna. It’s especially nice you can get one of the outside tables on the sea.
Not feeling a sit down lunch? You can easily grab some gyros and an ice cold mythos to take to the beach!
So what about dinner? One of the best meals we had on Karpathos was at a small taverna overlooking Lefkos beach.
Meltemi is a casual restaurant that serves tasty home cooked meals. The view overlooking Lefkos Beach is also stunning for drinks.
Is Lefkos Karpathos Worth Visiting?
Absolutely! We had such a great time in Lefkos Village and can’t wait to return. In fact, we’re thinking about spending at least three to four nights here on our next trip.
As we mentioned, it’s a fantastic stop on a road trip along the western coast of Karpathos Island. The calm waters make it great for families with young kids, and it’s a quiet place to relax on vacation.
