Located on the stunning northwest coast of Phuket, Kamala Beach is a great place to visit for families and couples alike. The beautiful sandy setting is the perfect mixture of nature, relaxation, and fun bars and restaurants. As you can tell, we can’t recommend this area enough for travelers visiting the island! Here are some helpful tips and how to spend the perfect day enjoying Kamala Beach in Phuket Thailand.
About Kamala Beach Phuket
Kamala Beach is not only a superb destination to visit in itself, but also well located for exploring the rest of the island. It’s just 45 minutes to both the airport and Phuket Old Town, 20 minutes to Patong, and also within an hour drive of the best beaches in the south like Kata & Kata Noi.
Also, the long sprawling beach and its warm golden sand makes for a fantastic sunset spot. Along Kamala you’ll find luxury resorts, massages, and a great selection of beach bars with happy hour.
Where to Stay in Kamala Beach Phuket
There are a wide selection of places to stay on Kamala Beach in Phuket. You have everything from world-class resorts to family run homestays.
Set on the right side of Kamala Beach is the famous InterContinental Phuket. This 5 star resort is known for its unbelievable swimming pools, tasty restaurants (more on that later), and spas. The InterContinental Phuket is the ultimate luxury accommodation in Kamala Beach!
If you’re looking for something more affordable there are a number of nice places to stay in the middle of town. Kamala Beachfront Apartment & Kamala Dreams are right on the walking path and just steps from the sand.
If you cut back away more into the town area you will find some budget friendly guesthouses like The Mareeya Place & B Happy Resort.

Our Perfect Day in Kamala Beach Phuket
Start With a Morning Swim
The best way to start your day in Kamala Beach is with a swim in the ocean! On a typical day the waves will be lightly rolling in, and the blue water is clear and inviting.
Honestly, there are no bad spots for a dip on this long and gorgeous Thai beach. Yet, the most crowded section tends to be by the beach chairs and restaurants. Make sure you treat yourself to a swim after your morning coffee.
One thing to know about Kamala Beach in Phuket is that there are dramatic tides. While you can swim at any time of day, high tide is much better if you really want to have fun in the water.

Exploring Around Kamala Beach Thailand
After our morning dip we grabbed a scooter rental and explored around Kamala. Just a quick drive from the town center is Laem Sing View Point which is the ideal spot to grab a photo.
We then spent two hours enjoying the nearby beaches of Surin and Bang Tao. Mid-morning is a great time to head out before the weather is too hot. Just before noon we traveled back towards Kamala and settled in for the rest of our beach day.

Kamala Beach Phuket Chairs & Cold Drinks
The afternoon is all about having fun in the sun, and Kamala Beach Phuket has plenty of places to do so! Sun beds are available up and down the sand and will only cost you 100 Thai Baht ($3 USD) per person for entire day.
We highly recommend renting one even if you’re not spending the whole afternoon at the beach because the sun can be very strong. All of the sun beds include umbrellas and are connected with a snack or drink shop.
We ordered a pad thai to our chairs and sipped on ice cold Chang beers and coconuts between beach swims. Of course, try to get a set of chairs in the front row so you can relax with an unreal view of the water!
Walking the Kamala Beach Phuket Pathway
Starting around the middle of Kamala Beach, there is a long walking path which we loved. This is where most of the popular bars and restaurants are located and the area is always buzzing with activity.
One of our favorite times to enjoy the walkway is during sunset as many of the bars have great happy hour deals! There are also a range of different food options, from international dining to cheap local food.

333 At the Beach for Dinner
Later on we strolled down the beach and took a long walk to the far end for sunset. While the InterContinental Phuket is the best place to stay, they also have an amazing beachfront restaurant!
This high-end dining right on the beach is something that definitely sets Kamala out from other popular beaches on the island. At 333 you can grab drinks at one of the tables in the sand or take a seat overlooking the water for dinner.
We started off with two delicious cocktails (Cucumber Smash & Sangria) before getting into our Red Snapper Ceviche. For our main courses we shared the Short Rib Wagyu and Andaman Prawns which were fabulous.
This was honestly one of the best meals we’ve had in Thailand. 333 At the Beach is somewhere everyone should experience in Kamala for dinner. Also, don’t forget about cheesecake for desert!
